Black Girls Farm is a CSA rooted in community, empowerment, and sustainable farming in NE Washington, DC. From 2017, we've grown from sharing harvests to educating on urban farming and offering diverse, locally grown organic produce. Struck by the lack of BIPOC representation in local markets, we're committed to diversity, inclusivity, and self-sufficiency in urban farming. Join our CSA for weekly harvest shares and to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future. Subscribe or 'Become a Member' to join our cause.
Join Black Girls Farm's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program and Experience the Difference!
Hey friends! We wanted to take a moment to share how our CSA stands out from the traditional model and why it's a unique and impactful experience. At Black Girls Farm, we are all about innovation, community collaboration, and making a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors.
One thing that sets us apart is that we don't have a "traditional" farm. Instead, we rely on the generosity of our amazing neighbors who donate their urban yards and spaces. In return, we provide them with free garden boxes and lessons on growing their own food.
But it doesn't stop there. We believe that community engagement is vital. That's why we invite all our CSA participants to come together once a week, usually on Tuesdays, both online during the off-season and in person during the growing season. These meet-ups are a chance for us to swap stories, share experiences, and connect with one another. It's a beautiful way to foster a sense of belonging and encourage the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
But what happens to the extra produce? We're glad you asked! At Black Girls Farm, we believe in giving back to our community. One way we do this is by collecting the surplus harvest and using it to create meals for unhoused residents. We also sell the excess produce at local farmers markets, which helps us raise funds for essential building materials and further support our mission.
But we don't stop there! We are committed to supporting other mutual aid efforts around the city as well. Any additional excess produce that we have goes directly to these initiatives, ensuring that our community as a whole benefits from the abundance we cultivate.
By joining our CSA, you become part of a movement that not only provides you with fresh, locally grown produce but also empowers you to grow your own food, connect with your neighbors, and contribute to the well-being of our community. It's a truly unique and fulfilling experience that goes beyond just receiving a share of the harvest.
So, if you're looking for a CSA that prioritizes community, sustainability, and making a positive impact, join us at Black Girls Farm. Together, we can transform urban spaces into flourishing gardens, create meals for those in need, and contribute to the growth and resilience of our city.
